Scholarships
The Zonta Club of Johnson County, KS sponsors and supports local, regional and international scholarships for women. We invite qualified women to apply for these awards.
Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA Award)

Applicants for the local YWPA Award--a $1000 scholarship--must be women of any nationality and meet the following minimum requirements: (1) be a student of age 16-19; (2) be a senior in high school planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States; (3) be a resident of Johnson County, Kansas, or a surrounding county in Kansas at the time of application; (4) have obtained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; and (5) demonstrate evidence of the following:
The winner of the Johnson County award also will be eligible for the District/International competition. Up to 37 awards of $5,000 each are offered at the District/International level.
- Active commitment to volunteerism
- Experience in local or student government
- Volunteer leadership achievements
- Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs
- Advocating in Zonta International's mission of advancing the status of women worldwide
The winner of the Johnson County award also will be eligible for the District/International competition. Up to 37 awards of $5,000 each are offered at the District/International level.
Non-Traditional Scholarship
A $500 scholarship award is given to a woman living in Johnson County, Kansas, who is returning to traditional or vocational school to improve her educational and economic status.
The deadline for application for the spring semester award is January 1; the deadline for application for the fall semester award is August 15.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship
College sophomore up to Master's level women pursuing a degree in business are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding potential and must apply through a local Zonta club. The winner at the club level may receive a monetary award, and her application will be forwarded to the District level for consideration of an International award of $5000. The application is posted on the zonta.org website under Our Programs/Education/Women in Business Scholarship. Our club scholarship is administered by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (www.gkccf.org), and you may also contact them for an application. The deadline to submit completed applications to the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (www.growyourgiving.com) is Friday, July 26, 2024. The winner of the club scholarship will be announced by August 15th.
Amelia Earhart Fellowship
Women registered in a Ph.D/doctoral program in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering are eligible for this award given in honor of former Zontian and famed pilot, Amelia Earhart. Annually, up to 30 Fellows from around the globe receive a $10,000 award. The deadline for application is November 15. For information and application, go to zonta.org/OurPrograms/Education
